One of the greatest shows to ever air on television is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I could leave it at that and be happy, but you wouldn’t know the bulk of the story!

Harmon Concrete was honored when the Extreme Team called and asked if we could do a “little” bit of concrete work. A “little” bit of concrete work turned into 7 days of non-stop pouring for both the 7 homes in 7 days and all of Cunningham Park! You can see our Extreme Makeover photo album here.

The show airs on ABC this Friday. January 13th, 2012 at 7:00 PM CST.

 The bulk of our work was in Cunningham Park. It turns out the park was being dedicated to those who helped after an EF-5 tornado destroyed a huge section of Joplin, Missouri.

As it happens, I’m also a Firefighter/First Responder with the Pea Ridge Fire Department in Pea Ridge, Arkansas. My wife and I were headed back to Bella Vista when the tornado hit. We drove through the devastation in order to get to the heart of damage. Within 15 minutes of arriving, we were pulling people from their homes! We would work for the next 30 hours going door to door!

While it sounds exciting, it was one of the most horrific sites I’d seen since Hurricane Katrina! My wife, 2 daughters and myself would end up going back for the next 5 days performing search and rescue.

As much as I’d like to keep talking about all the things we did during search and rescue operations, it’s really not the point of this article.

When we got the call to help with the Extreme Makeover project in Joplin, I don’t think there was a moment’s hesitation! For the next 8 days, we would pour concrete truck after concrete truck. Along with the students at Drury University, a piece of Joplin that was completely destroyed was brought back to life in a huge way!
